PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Josh Haynes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eaton Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Haynes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eaton Cox!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Roberts and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A clash of legs there as Cox blocks the low kick.
Cox lands with a straight right. Haynes didn't see that one coming.
Cox tries for a takedown but Haynes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
The fighters circling - Haynes throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Cox tries to clinch there but Haynes circles away.
No luck for Cox with that takedown attempt.
Haynes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Josh Haynes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eaton Cox.

Haynes gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Cox is fighting off a takedown attempt but Haynes is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Cox to the mat. Cox regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Haynes wants to control from the top but Cox keeps moving.
Haynes is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Cox might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Haynes kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Cox wants to take a breather but Haynes is having none of it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cox shoots in and drives through. Haynes sprawls well.

and Haynes counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cox won't be happy with that.

Haynes seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cox for as long as he can get away with.
Cox is trying to improve his position.
You can see the frustration on Cox's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cox tries to buck Haynes off but Haynes is having none of it.

Haynes is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

and Haynes counters with a shoot takedown. Cox fights it but they end up in guard.

Haynes's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Haynes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Cox wants to stand but Haynes is controlling the position.

Haynes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Haynes tries to free his leg and advance position but Cox is retaining full guard.

Cox had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Haynes is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Cox Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Haynes's back instead.

Cox doesn't have the hooks in and Haynes manages to turn into his guard.

Haynes is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Haynes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cox swivels though and keeps the full guard.

and Cox decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Haynes's guard.

Cox is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Haynes's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Haynes's back!
Haynes rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Cox is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Haynes!
