PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between George Forester (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gavin McIlroy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gavin McIlroy struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 146.0lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Forester uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Forester drives through and clinches with McIlroy against the cage.

Forester gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
McIlroy wants to improve his position but Forester is controlling well.
Forester will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

McIlroy has one foot on Forester's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Forester moves into the clinch successfully.
McIlroy is trying to drag Forester to the mat but Forester just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
McIlroy wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
McIlroy has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Forester avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Forester just misses with a elbow thrown towards McIlroy's brow.
McIlroy drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Forester gets the underhooks and prevents it.
George Forester has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gavin McIlroy.

Forester gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, McIlroy regains guard.

McIlroy throws the left hand but Forester avoids the punch easily.
McIlroy doesn't manage to clinch there - Forester circles away.
Forester lands with a nice combination. McIlroy backs away looking to recover.
Forester shoots for a takedown but McIlroy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
McIlroy moves to clinch but Forester breaks away
letting Forester counter with a right hand.
McIlroy looks gassed!
Forester tries to clinch but McIlroy is having none of it.

Forester moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
McIlroy shoots in and drives through. Forester sprawls well.
Forester scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McIlroy moves out of range of the body kick from Forester.

Forester shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
McIlroy trying to control but Forester postures up.
Forester trying to mount his opponent but McIlroy defends it.
Forester is looking to take a break and control but McIlroy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

We're going to have a standup here because George Forester wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Forester throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Forester feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits McIlroys jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Forester shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Forester scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Forester moves into range and clinches up with McIlroy.

Forester lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as McIlroy backs up against the cage.
McIlroy is still on wobbly legs! Can Forester finish him?
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Forester throws a sloppy head kick and McIlroy moves out of range easily.
Forester scores with a kick to the midsection.
McIlroy seems to have recovered his senses.

Forester will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Forester is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in McIlroy's half guard.
McIlroy won't allow Forester to pass to mount.
Forester knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McIlroy on the ground.

Forester fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McIlroy, pushing him back against the cage.

McIlroy takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Forester is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Forester lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Forester stalks McIlroy and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into McIlroy's face. McIlroy staggers backwards, shaken.
George Forester seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
