PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Trent Colton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rainer Killeri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Rainer Killeri was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Trent Colton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rainer Killeri!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colton moves in looking to clinch but Killeri pushes him off.
Trent Colton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Killeri misses with a double jab.
Killeri fails in his attempt to clinch.

Killeri gets a takedown into half guard.

Colton pushes Killeri off and gets back to his feet.

Colton closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Killeri to the mat! Killeri manages to get full guard.
Killeri avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Colton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Colton advances position into side control!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Colton has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Killeri!

Killeri wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Killeri defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Colton's arms.
Killeri trying to control the hands but Colton won't let him.
Colton is striking from the back but Killeri escapes and manages to recover to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Colton is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Colton prevents Killeri from improving his position.
Colton trying to pass the guard but Killeri defending well.
Colton is working hard here to advance position.
Colton tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Killeri.
Colton is breathing heavily.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Killeri fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Colton pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Killeri shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Colton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Colton is looking for a triangle but Killeri pushes his legs off easily.

Colton throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Killeri escapes and throws Colton's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Killeri tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Killeri has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Colton is looking for a sweep.
Colton sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Colton makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Trent Colton will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Colton shoots and misses

and Killeri counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Colton looking for a guillotine here but Killeri defends easily.

Colton escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Killeri gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Colton has his foot on Killeri's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Killeri works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Colton looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Killeri passes into half guard.
Colton is trying to stand.

Killeri is trying to control the action in half guard but Colton is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Killeri is working for a submission of some sort.
Killeri stops Colton from getting back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Colton throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Killeri manages to pass to side control.

Colton regains half guard.
Killeri prevents Colton from improving his position.
Colton regains full guard. Nicely done.
Killeri won't allow Colton to get back to his feet.

Colton looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Killeri has picked Colton up and slammed him! Colton can't keep hold of the triangle and Killeri manages to pass to side control!
Colton manages to work his way to half guard, despite Killeri's best efforts.
The fighters are battling for position here. Colton manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Killeri wants to control from the top but Colton keeps moving.

Colton is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Colton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Killeri is one step ahead there.
Killeri trying to control the position from guard on top but Colton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Colton looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Killeri puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Killeri tries to pass to full mount but Colton defends it.

Rainer Killeri showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Colton looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Killeri won't allow Colton to pass to mount.

Colton is looking for a kimura but Killeri is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Colton to get the leverage.

Colton stands up from half guard.

Colton shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Colton was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Killeri is wriggling around trying to escape.
Colton throws a wild left hand from mount and Killeri manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
Killeri moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Killeri is on top in guard.

Killeri wants to lay and pray for a moment but Colton keeps working.

Killeri is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Colton is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Killeri has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Colton is trying to escape the mount but Killeri keeps good control and instead manages to take Colton's back.
Colton turns into Killeri and is now in his guard.

Colton drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Colton jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Colton wants to stand but Killeri has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Trent Colton.
Well Colton has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
