Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brody Savanis!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Llewellyn Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jorge Garcia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas closes the distance but Savanis moves to the side

and Savanis counters with a single leg into guard. Thomas didn't expect that.
Savanis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Thomas works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Savanis won't allow Thomas to get back to his feet.
Savanis throws a big right hand that misses.
Savanis trying to control but Thomas is working from the bottom.
Thomas can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Savanis controls the pace.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Thomas looking for a sweep. Not yet Thomas, not yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Brody Savanis wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Savanis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Savanis throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Thomas works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Savanis looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Thomas with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Thomas wants to control but Savanis is keeping busy.

Thomas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Savanis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Savanis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Savanis is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Thomas can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Savanis wants to control the pace but Thomas is squirming around nicely.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Savanis fails to land the takedown.
Thomas doesn't manage to clinch there - Savanis circles away.
Savanis throws a left and a right that both miss

and Thomas counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Savanis kicks off Thomas and gets to his feet.
Thomas tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Savanis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Thomas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Savanis.

Savanis wants to pass to mount but Thomas is defending the position.
Savanis is trying to control the action in half guard but Thomas is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Brody Savanis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Savanis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Thomas has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Savanis is working away from the top position though.
Thomas is trying to stand.
Savanis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Thomas's head.
Thomas has his hands clasped together around Savanis's back. He's all about the action.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Thomas tries to kick Savanis off but Savanis keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Savanis is trying hard to land a takedown here. Thomas sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Thomas moves to clinch but Savanis breaks away

and Savanis counters with a takedown into side control.

Savanis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Thomas is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
You can see the frustration on Thomas's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Thomas is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Savanis's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Thomas is still in real trouble! Can Savanis finish him?
Oooooh, big shot lands for Savanis! Thomas is hurt baaadly! Savanis is firing away with more strikes - Thomas is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
