Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Ennis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pedro The Pedro! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Donatello Bradman and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ennis misses with a body kick. Ennis thows a body shot but no joy. The Pedro shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than The Pedro was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Ennis is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Ennis blocking the ground and pound. Ennis sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. The Pedro wants to pass to mount but Ennis is defending the position. Ennis keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The Pedro missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Ennis works his way to full guard. Good work. The Pedro postures up in Ennis's guard and throws a big left but Ennis blocks it. Ennis is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ennis looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The Pedro wants to control from the top but Ennis keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ennis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. The Pedro manages to get himself to full guard.
Ennis preventing the sweep. Ennis tries to free his leg and advance position but The Pedro is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ennis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ennis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Ennis postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Ennis works a leg free and moves into half guard. The Pedro trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Ennis manages to pass to mount!
Ennis landing strikes from the mount. The Pedro tries to hold on but Ennis postures up. Ennis connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The Pedro is rocked!
It looks like Pedro The Pedro has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The Pedro takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Ennis's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
