Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shakyamuni Buddha!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chiang Kai Shek!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shigeki Sano and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buddha looks to land a combination but Kai Shek avoids it well.
Buddha fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kai Shek lands a head shot.
Chiang Kai Shek seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A swing and a miss from Kai Shek.
Buddha scores with a one two! Kai Shek had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
A right-left combo lands from Buddha.

Buddha shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Buddha was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Kai Shek is desperately trying to improve his position but Buddha has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Buddha goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Kai Shek is on top in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Buddha is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Kai Shek wanted to stand there but Buddha had control of the position.

Buddha looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Kai Shek stands and steps away. Buddha gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Kai Shek throws a good cross that connects.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kai Shek looks to score with a jab to the body but Buddha is just out of range.
Buddha swings for the body but Kai Shek moves out of range.
Buddha takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
A telegraphed right hand from Kai Shek misses the target.
Kai Shek throws a right hand that misses
and Buddha counters with a nice uppercut.
Buddha tries to clinch there but Kai Shek circles away.
Kai Shek misses with a combination

and Buddha counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kai Shek won't be happy with that.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kai Shek is looking to regain half guard here but Buddha keeps moving and retains side control.
Buddha wants to control but Kai Shek is keeping him busy.

Buddha is trying to get an arm triangle but Kai Shek is defending well.
Kai Shek really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Buddha. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Buddha is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kai Shek is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Buddha tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kai Shek wants to control but Buddha postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
A lull in the action here as Buddha stalls from top position.

Buddha wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kai Shek, who protects the arm well.
Kai Shek is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Buddha is controlling him well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kai Shek is looking to reverse the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shakyamuni Buddha dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Buddha throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Kai Shek closes the distance and pushes Buddha back into the cage.

Kai Shek is trying to break free.
Kai Shek wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Buddha tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Buddha tries to pull guard but Kai Shek won't allow it.
Buddha fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shakyamuni Buddha. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kai Shek misses with a short punch on the inside.

Buddha manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Buddha is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kai Shek defends well.
Kai Shek wants to get up but he can't break Buddha's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Buddha is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Buddha looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Buddha has his foot on Kai Shek's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kai Shek works his way back into a safe position though.

Buddha is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kai Shek defends well.
Kai Shek would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Buddha is looking for a triangle here but Kai Shek uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Buddha can't do much from the bottom here.
Kai Shek tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Buddha is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kai Shek off and has taken his back!

Buddha patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Buddha working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Buddha is looking for the choke from the back position but Kai Shek is controlling his hands well.

Buddha is persistently looking for the submission but Kai Shek is defending it well.
Kai Shek is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Buddha has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Kai Shek has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Buddha patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Buddha controlling the position well here. Kai Shek rolled but Buddha kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kai Shek trying to get back to his feet but Buddha is in full control for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shakyamuni Buddha dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kai Shek throws a left and a right that both miss
and Buddha cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Shakyamuni Buddha is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Danga de danga de dang - Kai Shek scores with a four punch combination!
Kai Shek rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Buddha counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Kai Shek thinking.
The fighters circle momentarily. Kai Shek darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

and Buddha counters with a single leg into guard. Kai Shek didn't expect that.
Buddha forces his way into half guard.

Buddha is working for a kimura but Kai Shek is defending it quite comfortably.
Buddha is trying to control. Kai Shek wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Kai Shek pushes Buddha off looking to stand but Buddha dives back in and keeps control.
Buddha has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Buddha goes for an armbar but Kai Shek turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Kai Shek.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kai Shek wants to stand but Buddha is controlling his posture from full guard.
Kai Shek wants to control from the top but Buddha keeps moving.
Buddha tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kai Shek trying to control but Buddha is working from the bottom.
Buddha trying to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Chiang Kai Shek.
Kai Shek throws the kick towards the body but Buddha avoids it.
Buddha takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Buddha tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kai Shek was well out of range. Poor timing from Buddha.

and Buddha counters by clinching up.
Kai Shek has Buddha pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Buddha manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Buddha gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kai Shek.

Buddha has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kai Shek uses from the top position.

Kai Shek looking to improve position, pressing down on Buddha's thigh with his hand. Buddha seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Kai Shek paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Kai Shek's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Buddha picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Shakyamuni Buddha!
