PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dean Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan comes to the cage accompanied by murda time. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Cain Marquez!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ryan gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Ryan has his takedown stuffed

and Marquez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Marquez is controlling the pace.
Marquez is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Marquez performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Let's hope that Marquez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Marquez wants to pass to mount but Ryan is defending the position.
Ryan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marquez is working away from the top position though.
Ryan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Marquez is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dean Ryan wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Marquez shoots in and bounces Ryan off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Marquez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Marquez has gone for a leg lock! Ryan slips out almost immediately though and dives into Marquez's guard.
Ryan tries to free his leg and advance position but Marquez is retaining full guard.
Ryan sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Marquez's guard.
Marquez is controlling Ryan's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Ryan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Marquez tries to roll over but Ryan keeps him under control.

Marquez preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Cain Marquez has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Marquez throws a right and a left that both miss.

Marquez closes the distance and clinches.
Ryan tries to pull guard but Marquez holds him up against the cage and eventually Ryan drops back down to his feet.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Ryan tries to score a body lock takedown but Marquez shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dean Ryan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Marquez shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Ryan is breathing heavily.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Marquez in particular looking to stall.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marquez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ryan defends it well.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Marquez in particular looking to stall.
Ryan is trying to maintain the position but Marquez is very close to passing his half guard.

Ryan has hold of Marquez's hands but Marquez slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Cain Marquez has got the better of the ground game so far.

Marquez looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Marquez wants to advance to full mount but Ryan doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Marquez not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Marquez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ryan enables Marquez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ryan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Cain Marquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

Ryan jumps guard but Marquez stands there with Ryan around his waist. Ryan gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Cain Marquez.
Marquez is looking to clinch but Ryan is avoiding it.
Ryan gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Marquez feints a jab promting Ryan to slip. Marquez then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Ryan slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Marquez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ryan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Marquez lands a slapping body shot.
Ryan wants to clinch

and Marquez counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Ryan!

Ryan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Marquez cracks Ryan with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Cain Marquez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Marquez's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Cain Marquez was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Marquez throws a head kick but Ryan moves out of range.
Marquez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Marquez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Marquez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Marquez looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Dean Ryan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Cain Marquez was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Marquez shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ryan napping and manages to drive through into side control!

And that's the end of the fight!
Cain Marquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Marquez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
