Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nate Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uraijah Faber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Voices - Rev Theory. Nate Diaz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nate Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Uraijah Faber!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Summer Carpenter and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Faber drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Faber drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Diaz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Faber has Diaz in his guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Faber can do anything to dispel that myth.
Faber utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz passes Faber's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Diaz not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Diaz stands up and beckons Faber to join him on the feet.
Faber connects with a jab.
Faber moves into range and connects with a jab.
Nice takedown defense from Diaz. No joy for Faber on that attempt.

Faber closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Diaz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Faber wants to take a breather but Diaz is having none of it.
Diaz is pressing down on Faber's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Diaz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Diaz manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Faber is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Diaz wants to finish this one by submission but Faber is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Diaz.

Diaz unloads with some shots from mount but Faber bucks and avoids them well.

Poor strikes thrown by Diaz there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Faber wants to get back to his feet.

Diaz with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Diaz is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Faber can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Nate Diaz will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Diaz lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Faber is trying to stand up here but Diaz is controlling him well.

Diaz stops Faber from getting back to his feet.
Diaz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Faber does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

We're going to have a standup here because Nate Diaz wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Faber tries for a takedown but Diaz circles away easily
and Diaz counters with a one-two to the body.

Diaz fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Faber sprawls well initially but Diaz persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Diaz is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Faber!

Faber defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Diaz.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Diaz enables Faber to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Diaz manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Diaz tries to control but Faber wriggling away.
Faber is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Uraijah Faber has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Faber holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Diaz tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Diaz cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Faber srikes from the bottom but he's lost position and has given up his back.

Diaz is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Faber is defending well though. Diaz let's go of the attempt for now.
Nate Diaz is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Faber controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nate Diaz showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Diaz has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
