PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andre Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Bravo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Banks comes to the cage accompanied by Kanye West-So Appalled. Bravo has chosen Terminator 2 as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andre Banks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eddie Bravo!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banks misses the jab.
Bravo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Banks.

Banks closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bravo quickly recovers to half guard.
Bravo works his way to full guard. Good work.
Banks trying to control the position from guard on top but Bravo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Banks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bravo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bravo looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Bravo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bravo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Eddie Bravo.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andre Banks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Banks thumps Bravo with a low kick.
Andre Banks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Banks misses with a jab, cross combination.
Banks swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Bravo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Banks sprawls well initially but Bravo persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Bravo misses with a head shot. Banks uses the momentum to regain guard.
Banks keeping full guard, as Bravo tries to pass.
Bravo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Banks works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bravo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Banks is keeping the position for now.

Bravo is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Banks is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Banks has escaped and now he's on top!

Banks drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Banks jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Banks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bravo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bravo wants to sweep here but Banks controlling him for the moment.

Banks is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Banks drops back looking for a leg! Bravo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bravo manages to kick Banks off! Banks jumps back into Bravo's guard.
Banks slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Bravo is trying to control the position but Banks postures up.
Bravo has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Banks has passed into side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bravo struggling a bit here.
Bravo is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Banks's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Banks is pressing down on Bravo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bravo is holding on for now.
Banks throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Bravo tries to get to full guard but Banks has control of the leg.
Bravo is looking to control Banks's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bravo avoid being mounted?

Banks is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bravo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Banks.

Banks is looking for a kimura but Bravo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Banks to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Banks looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Banks connects with a nice short shot to Bravo's temple.

Banks is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bravo is just riding it out for now. Banks eventually gives up the hold.

Banks is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Bravo has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Banks fails to move to back control.
Bravo sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Banks working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bravo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bravo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That was a close second round but I would say that Andre Banks will probably get the nod.

Bravo is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Banks is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
