PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Brian Sheffield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Claude Van Dam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sheffield comes into the arena with New Model Army - Vagabonds blaring out of the sound system. Jean Claude Van Dam told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Brian Sheffield!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jean Claude Van Dam!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Dam thuds his shin into the meat of Sheffield's side.
Sheffield has a takedown stuffed.
Van Dam misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sheffield throws a right and a left that both miss.
Sheffield misses with a combination
and Van Dam counters with a nice body kick.
Sheffield misses with the body kick
and Sheffield takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Sheffield moves into the clinch successfully.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Van Dam.
Van Dam tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Sheffield has Van Dam pushed against the ropes.
Sheffield blocks a punch to the side of the head.
A head punch on the inside from Van Dam fails to land.
Van Dam has a couple of punches blocked by Sheffield.
Van Dam fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Sheffield manages to break the clinch.
Van Dam clobbers Sheffield with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Sheffield throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Sheffield shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Van Dam has hold of Sheffield's hands but Sheffield slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Sheffield content to control rather than advance.
Sheffield is nestled in close to Van Dam, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Van Dam wants to control but Sheffield is keeping busy.

Sheffield escapes and gets back to his feet.
Van Dam throws a combination that misses
and Sheffield counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Van Dam connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Sheffield has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Sheffield there as he acknowledges the shot.
Sheffield has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Van Dam tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sheffield swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Sheffield.
Sheffield misses with a double jab
and Van Dam counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Sheffield is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Jean Claude Van Dam seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sheffield rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Van Dam moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Van Dam falls off balance throwing a combination
and Sheffield counters with a straight right hand.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sheffield swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Van Dam counters with a head kick that drops Sheffield to the mat! Sheffield scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Sheffield is rocked!
Van Dam lands with a massive overhand right! Stick a fork in Sheffield - he's out cold! Ermm... I think I just mixed my metaphors but yeah... That was a nice KO! Big win for Van Dam!
