PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Nick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo De Noteboom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Rodrigo De Noteboom was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mike Nick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rodrigo De Noteboom!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nick fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nick tries to clinch there but De Noteboom circles away.
Nick with a lazy takedown attempt
and De Noteboom counters with a stiff right hand.

De Noteboom gets a takedown into half guard.
De Noteboom trying to pass the guard but Nick defending well.
Nick is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
De Noteboom sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Nick defending well though.
Nick is trying to stand up here but De Noteboom is controlling him well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nick trying to hold on to De Noteboom's head to control him but De Noteboom postures up.
De Noteboom wants to pass to mount but Nick is defending the position.
De Noteboom looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
De Noteboom drops an elbow to the side of Nick's head.
De Noteboom tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nick knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
De Noteboom content to control rather than advance.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

De Noteboom shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. De Noteboom showed some decent athleticism there.
De Noteboom lands with a punch from half guard.
Nick is looking for a sweep. De Noteboom is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Nick is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
De Noteboom winds up and cracks Nick with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
De Noteboom controlling the action here.
Nick has hold of De Noteboom's hands but De Noteboom slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
De Noteboom trying to pass the guard but Nick defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
De Noteboom is controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodrigo De Noteboom dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



De Noteboom drives through with a takedown into guard.
De Noteboom pushing down on Nick's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
De Noteboom is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
De Noteboom with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
De Noteboom's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

De Noteboom working over Nick with some ground and pound. Nick looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Nick has hold of De Noteboom's hands but De Noteboom slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
De Noteboom trying to mount his opponent but Nick defends it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. De Noteboom connects with a nice short shot to Nick's temple.


It looks like Mike Nick has been cut.
De Noteboom takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Nick really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rodrigo De Noteboom was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Nick throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Nick gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows De Noteboom to score an easy takedown into full guard.
De Noteboom with a nice head shot there.
Nick can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as De Noteboom controls the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
De Noteboom postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
De Noteboom looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodrigo De Noteboom showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Mike Nick's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



De Noteboom closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Nick is trying to escape the position but De Noteboom is controlling the position.
De Noteboom scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Nick to see if he's OK.
De Noteboom in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
De Noteboom is chipping away with strikes.


Nick is rocked!


Mike Nick's cut is getting worse.
De Noteboom remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nick is working to avoid the ground and pound but De Noteboom connects with a decent elbow.
Oh Nick is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!


Mike Nick's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
De Noteboom in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Nick looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! De Noteboom turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rodrigo De Noteboom!
