Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rya Koc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barack Obina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Obina has chosen Cio da Terra - Pena Branca & Xavantinho e Renato Teixeira as his entrance music. Barack Obina has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Rya Koc's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rya Koc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Barack Obina!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Paulo Santos and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Obina. Koc does a little dance to reset his feet.
Koc tries for a takedown but Obina circles away easily
and Obina counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Obina misses with a hook

so Koc counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Obina keeping moving, preventing Koc from controlling successfully.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Obina can do anything to dispel that myth.
Obina preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Koc postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Koc throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Koc is looking to work some ground and pound but Obina has wrist control.
Koc trying to control the position from guard on top but Obina is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Obina has control of Koc's left arm, preventing Koc from doing any damage.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Obina has his hands on Koc's head, controlling the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Obina misses with a left hand

and Koc counters with a shoot takedown. Obina fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Koc stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Obina swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Koc throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Obina works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Koc throws a strike but Obina rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Koc can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Obina controls the pace.

Koc looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Obina slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Koc looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Obina passes into side control.
Koc seems a little lost for a moment, as Obina dominates the positioning.
Koc is looking to regain half guard here but Obina keeps moving and retains side control.
A lull in the action here.
Koc wants to control but Obina postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rya Koc dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Obina throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Koc takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Obina throws a right hand that misses

and Koc counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Koc trying to control from half guard but Obina is working away.
Obina avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Koc.
Koc throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Koc stalling away here and it's allowed Obina to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Koc will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Obina manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Koc manages to get himself to full guard.

Obina got a little sloppy there for a moment and Koc has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Obina has managed to get both his arms back between Koc's legs - danger averted.
Obina slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Koc is looking for a triangle but Obina pushes his legs off easily.
Koc is trying to keep Obina in close.

Koc is looking for a triangle here but Obina uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Koc looking for a sweep but Obina has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Koc keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rya Koc overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Obina takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Koc is wriggling around trying to escape.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Koc tries to hold on but Obina postures up.
Obina sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Koc is desperately trying to improve his position but Obina has a good base and remains in mount.
Obina controlling his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Barack Obina will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Obina connects with the punch.
Obina throws a left and a right that both miss
and Koc counters with a stiff right hand.
Obina throws a big shot that misses.
Obina thuds his right hand into Koc's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Koc takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Obina scores with a crisp jab that stopped Koc in his tracks.
Koc lands a jab-cross combination.
Obina throws a lazy uppercut

and Koc counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Koc is looking to advance position but Obina has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Obina takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Koc is trying to escape the mount.
Obina avoids the attempt from Koc to control.
Koc wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Koc tries to hold on but Obina postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Obina controlling from mount.
Koc tries to lock up and control but Obina gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Koc really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Koc is working hard here to advance position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Koc is looking to get to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Obina controlling from the full mount.
Obina avoids the attempt from Koc to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rya Koc showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Koc has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
