PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Geronimo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Mic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Roberts and Jonathan Paton.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Geronimo fakes the leg kick and cracks Mic in the body.

Geronimo clinches.
Mic tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Geronimo avoids it.
Mic tries to land knees in the clinch but Geronimo avoids the damage to the body.
A right handed body shot lands from Mic.
Mic stops a takedown attempt from Geronimo.
Geronimo goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mic prevents it.
Geronimo lands an elbow that stopped Mic in his tracks for a moment.

Mic is trying to trip Geronimo. He has hold of a leg but Geronimo is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Mic persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Mic stops Geronimo from standing up.
Geronimo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Mic gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Mic fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Geronimo wants to clinch
and Mic counters with a head kick.

Mic thumps Geronimo with a low kick.
Geronimo closes the distance looking to clinch

so Mic counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Geronimo keeping moving, preventing Mic from controlling successfully.
Geronimo is breathing heavily.
Mic showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Mic gets to his feet - Geronimo follows without any prompting.

Mic closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Geronimo stalling in the clinch but Mic improves position.

Geronimo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mic is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Geronimo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mic has clasped his hands together around Geronimo's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mic wants to control but Geronimo is keeping him busy.

Mic decides to stand back up. Mic steps back and let's Geronimo get back to his feet.

Mic shoots in and gets a takedown into Geronimo's guard.
Mic is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Mic wants to control from the top but Geronimo keeps moving.
Geronimo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Geronimo tries to get out of the position.
Geronimo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mic passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The referee asks Mic politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mic prefers to stall for the moment though.
Mic cracks Geronimo with a big right hand but Geronimo just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Mic content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mic stands up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nice body punch from Mic.

Mic shoots in and bounces Geronimo off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mic decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Mic closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Mic dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Mic crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Geronimo - the referee stops the clock and Mic gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Geronimo. Mic manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Mic takes the fight into the clinch.

Mic tightens his grip and picks Geronimo up, before dumping him to the ground. Geronimo manages to land in guard.
Geronimo wants to stand and escape but Mic is having none of it.

Geronimo is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Mic wants to control from the top but Geronimo keeps moving.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Geronimo has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Mic has passed into side control.

Mic trying to control the action but Geronimo is working from the bottom.

Mic has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Geronimo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Mic counters with a nice double leg into side control. Geronimo won't be happy with that.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Mic. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Mic advances to full mount.

Mic tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mic with shots to the head and body - Geronimo looks very uncomfortable down there.
Geronimo is trying to reverse the position but instead Mic has taken his back - oops!
