PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jan Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Fricke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fricke is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Drowning Pool - Bodies. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Fricke!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fricke is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Fricke lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

It looks like Jan Thomas has been cut.
Fricke tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Thomas manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Thomas throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Thomas throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Fricke is looking to clinch.
Thomas comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
A punch lands to the side of Fricke 's head but he takes it in his stride.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fricke tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Fricke changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Thomas looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Fricke lands a few punches from side control.
Fricke has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Fricke in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Fricke working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Fricke cracks Thomas with a big elbow.

Fricke is working to tighten is grip on Thomas's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Thomas has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Fricke is really squeezing tight and eventually Thomas passes out! Fricke breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
