PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabriel Scyler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scyler has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Gabriel Scyler will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Scyler counters with a straight right hand.
Gracie slips a straight right by Scyler.
Gracie misses with a takedown
and Scyler counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Gracie gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Scyler counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Royce Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gracie swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Scyler is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Scyler enables Gracie to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Scyler manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Scyler wants to stand and escape but Gracie is having none of it.

Gracie passes into half guard.
Gracie looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Scyler doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Scyler is staying active underneath Gracie, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gracie is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Scyler reverses the position - he's now on top in Gracie's guard.

Gracie looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gracie might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Gracie holds on and takes a little breather.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Scyler wants to get up but he can't break Gracie's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Gracie is looking to sinch up a triangle. Scyler throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Gracie's body to avoid the submission. Gracie has instead reached around Scyler's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Gracie arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
