PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Toru Ohta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zolloo Loam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ohta comes into the arena with Technopolis blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Toru Ohta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Zolloo Loam!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ohta gets the takedown into side control.
Loam is looking to reverse the position.
Loam should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Loam stops Ohta from passing to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ohta tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Ohta thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ohta wants to lay and pray for a moment but Loam keeps working.
Ohta tries to move to mount but Loam blocks the move with his legs.
Ohta tries to advance position but instead Loam slips a leg back in to half guard.
Ohta not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Ohta not doing much here.
Ohta's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Ohta wants to pass to mount but Loam is defending the position.
Ohta frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ohta controlling the position easily from mount.
Ohta trying to control but Loam is having none of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ohta controlling his opponent.
Ohta tries to control but Loam wriggling away.
Ohta throwing strikes here but Loam is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Ohta is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Loam has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Loam!

Loam trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Loam wants to control from the top but Ohta keeps moving.
Loam wants to stand but Ohta has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ohta tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Loam missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Ohta is adopting a defensive guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Loam circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ohta avoids a punch combination nicely.

Loam has closed the distance and engaged Ohta in a clinch.
Loam jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ohta walks away with a smile on his face. Loam gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Loam fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Loam is fighting off a takedown attempt but Ohta is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Loam to the mat. Loam regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Toru Ohta dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Loam takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.


It looks like Zolloo Loam has been cut.
Ohta uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Loam has time to react.
Ohta throws a big shot that misses.
Loam looks to throw the jab but Ohta is out of range.
Loam throws a lazy uppercut
and Ohta counters with a nice body shot.
Loam gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Ohta counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Loam tries to move into range but Ohta moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Ohta waves his right hand out in front of him, looking to distract Loam. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Loam to the canvas! Can he finish him!?


Loam is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ohta sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Loam's guard.
Loam is still in real trouble! Can Ohta finish him?
Loam is breathing heavily.
Ohta looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Loam seems to have recovered his senses.
Ohta missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Ohta not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ohta is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Ohta tries to pass the half guard into mount. Loam knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Ohta controlling the action here.
Ohta is pressing down on Loam's thigh, looking to free his foot. Loam is holding on for now.
Ohta looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ohta works his way into full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ohta controlling the pace for now.
Ohta seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Loam for as long as he can get away with.
Ohta fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Ohta is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Loam has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Ohta putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Ohta takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ohta is landing with some decent strikes but Loam is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
BOOM! Ohta connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Ohta tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Ohta lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Zolloo Loam's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Ohta closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Loam did well to prevent Ohta getting side control.
Ohta takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Ohta is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Loam can do to turn this around?
Ohta wants to pass to mount but Loam is defending the position.
Loam keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Loam is in trouble now - Ohta has advanced to mount!
Poor strikes thrown by Ohta there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Toru Ohta overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ohta lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Loam hang on?
Loam takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Ohta lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Ohta sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Ohta working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Loam turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Ohta off and cradles Loam's limp body as Ohta celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Toru Ohta!
