PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeminen Mahojakotyc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Landen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James Landen will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jeminen Mahojakotyc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, James Landen!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mahojakotyc takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Mahojakotyc clinches with his opponent.
Mahojakotyc lands a body punch in the clinch.

Mahojakotyc turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Mahojakotyc manages to end up in side control.
Landen struggling a bit here.
Landen is looking to regain half guard here but Mahojakotyc keeps moving and retains side control.
Landen wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Landen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Landen is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Mahojakotyc off and has taken his back!
Landen is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Landen gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Landen gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Landen apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Landen ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Landen no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Landen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Landen is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Mahojakotyc is breathing heavily.
Landen wants a takedown.
Mahojakotyc lands an uppercut.
A head punch on the inside from Mahojakotyc fails to land.
Mahojakotyc tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

and Landen counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Landen.

Landen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mahojakotyc controls Landen momentarily but Landen frees himself.
Landen works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Mahojakotyc could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Landen stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Mahojakotyc to get to his feet.
No joy there for Mahojakotyc, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Landen counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Mahojakotyc tries to kick Landen off but Landen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Mahojakotyc manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Mahojakotyc looks to land a combination but Landen avoids it well.

and Landen counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mahojakotyc's guard now.

Landen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Landen passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Landen uses his free foot to push down on Mahojakotyc's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mahojakotyc.

Mahojakotyc might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Landen has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mahojakotyc's face.

I looks like Landen might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Landen's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Despite being in the dominant position, James Landen just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Landen avoids a punch combination nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Landen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Landen dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mahojakotyc shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

James Landen has got the better of the ground game so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Landen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mahojakotyc is fending him off so far but Landen persists. Nope, Mahojakotyc circles away and we're back to standing.
Jeminen Mahojakotyc seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mahojakotyc scores with a crisp jab that stopped Landen in his tracks.

Landen scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Landen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mahojakotyc's guard.

Mahojakotyc knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Landen on the ground.

Mahojakotyc keeping moving, preventing Landen from controlling successfully.
Landen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Landen has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Landen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Landen has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mahojakotyc uses from the top position.
Landen has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
