The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCarty misses with a takedown attempt
enabling Madson to counter with a crisp jab.

McCarty feints and as Madson raises his hands in defense, McCarty changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

McCarty stands up and waves to Madson to follow him.
McCarty fails with the takedown
and Madson counters with a nice uppercut.
No joy there for Madson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Madson takes a swing at McCarty's ribcage but misses.

McCarty is trying to maintain the position but Madson is very close to passing his half guard.

McCarty makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

McCarty shoots in and gets a takedown into Madson's guard.
McCarty won't allow Madson to get back to his feet.
Madson wants to sweep but no luck.
Madson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

and Madson counters by moving into the clinch.

McCarty has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Madson uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCarty wants to stand up but Madson is controlling him.

McCarty pushes Madson off and scrambles back to his feet.

McCarty wants to stand up but Madson is controlling him.

McCarty controls Madson momentarily but Madson frees himself.
McCarty could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

McCarty gets the takedown into side control.
Madson can't do much from the bottom here.

McCarty stands up and beckons Madson to his feet.

McCarty gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Madson wants to stand but McCarty is controlling his posture from full guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Rayan McCarty will probably get the nod.

McCarty has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

McCarty drops down looking for an ankle pick but Madson pulls his leg out and moves away.

Madson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Madson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. McCarty doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Madson.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

McCarty has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Madson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
McCarty shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Madson counters with a single leg into guard. McCarty didn't expect that.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Madson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

McCarty throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Madson's waist but Madson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McCarty off to one side.

McCarty is looking to control Madson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McCarty avoid being mounted?

Well Madson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
