PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Orlando Cardigan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and He Jin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Orlando Cardigan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, He Jin!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cardigan lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Cardigan closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jin circles away.

Cardigan wants to control from the top but Jin keeps moving.

Jin working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Cardigan has passed into half guard!
Jin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Orlando Cardigan has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Cardigan throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jin was covering up waiting for the punch and Cardigan finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Jin is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Cardigan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Cardigan wants to finish this one by submission but Jin is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Cardigan.

Cardigan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jin is looking to escape.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Cardigan seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jin for as long as he can get away with.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Orlando Cardigan.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cardigan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Jin gets caught flat footed, as Cardigan shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Cardigan passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Jin!

Cardigan uses his free foot to push down on Jin's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jin.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cardigan takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Cardigan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

We're going to have a standup here because Orlando Cardigan wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Cardigan lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Jin at a distance.

Jin closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Cardigan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cardigan lands in his opponent's guard.
He Jin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Cardigan remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Jin stuffs the takedown attempt from Cardigan. Cardigan gets slowly back to his feet.
Good leg kick by Cardigan there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cardigan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
