PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Travis Moguillan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Silver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Travis Moguillan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jon Silver!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silver looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Moguillan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silver swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Moguillan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Silver paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Moguillan tries to clinch up but Silver circles away and keeps his distance.
Moguillan could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Silver clinches up with Moguillan and pushes him back against the cage.
Moguillan throws a knee to the head but misses.
Moguillan drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Moguillan stalling.
Silver wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Silver manages to break the clinch.
Moguillan stuffs the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Moguillan has managed to clinch.

Silver manages to break the clinch.
Silver misses with a takedown attempt - Moguillan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Travis Moguillan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Silver.

Moguillan lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Moguillan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Silver paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Moguillan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Silver counters by clinching up.

Moguillan manages to break the clinch.

Silver feints and as Moguillan raises his hands in defense, Silver changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Silver slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Moguillan keeping moving, preventing Silver from controlling successfully.
Silver might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Moguillan kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Moguillan has momentary wrist control but Silver slips an elbow through the middle.
Silver missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Silver wants to control from the top but Moguillan keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silver won't allow Moguillan to sweep him here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Silver shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Moguillan counters with a head kick. That will keep Silver thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Ouch! a nice leg kick from Moguillan, right into the meat.

and Silver counters with a shoot takedown. Moguillan fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Silver is pushing down on Moguillan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Moguillan is fighting to maintain full guard but Silver has managed to sneak the leg through.
Moguillan tries to roll over but Silver keeps him under control.
Silver controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Moguillan is staying active underneath Silver, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Silver not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Moguillan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Moguillan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Silver's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Silver's back!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Silver is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Moguillan controlling the position well here. Silver rolled but Moguillan kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Silver looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Silver wants to control his opponent's hands but Moguillan gets his hands free.
Silver manages to reverse the position and now he's in Moguillan's guard. Nice work there by Silver.

Silver is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Moguillan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Moguillan has escaped and now he's on top!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Silver is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Silver wants to clinch.
Silver misses with a hook.
Silver is looking to clinch but Moguillan is avoiding it.
A shot to the body from Moguillan misses

and Silver counters with a nice double leg into side control. Moguillan won't be happy with that.

Silver is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Moguillan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Moguillan on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Moguillan sneaks back into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Moguillan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Silver wants to control from the top but Moguillan keeps moving.
Silver is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Moguillan lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Silver!
Moguillan throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Silver is working to get back to half guard.

Silver wants to hold on but Moguillan pushes him away.
Silver keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Moguillan lands a nice shot to the head.
Moguillan lands with some strikes.
Silver is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Moguillan punching from mount but Silver doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Silver tries to hold on but Moguillan pushes him away.

Moguillan is persistently looking for the submission but Silver is defending it well.
Silver controlling his opponent's hands, preventing the submission attempt.
Silver rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Silver flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Silver is pressing down on Moguillan's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Silver working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Moguillan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Moguillan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Silver is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Moguillan stands up and waves to Silver to follow him.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Travis Moguillan will probably get the nod.
That's time! Moguillan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

and Silver counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Moguillan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Silver controls the pace.
Moguillan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jon Silver has got the better of the ground game so far.

Silver passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Moguillan!

Silver takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Moguillan is working to get back to half guard.

Silver working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Moguillan looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Silver! Submission of the night perhaps?
