The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riddel tries to sprawl but Zodiac drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Zodiac is trying to control the action in half guard but Riddel is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Zodiac is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Riddel has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Riddel!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Zodiac has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Riddel has passed into side control.
Zodiac is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Riddel asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Zodiac lands a big shot there that rocks Riddel but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
