PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nate Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and jay cometa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Voices - Rev Theory. The key to victory for Nate Diaz has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, jay cometa!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

cometa shoots in and gets a takedown into Diaz's guard.
Diaz wants to sweep here but cometa controlling him for the moment.

cometa thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
cometa with a flurry of punches that miss.
cometa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
cometa thows a big elbow that misses.

cometa gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

cometa closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Diaz shoots in for a double leg but cometa sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

cometa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Diaz keeps working.

Well, if cometa is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
cometa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Diaz manages to escape and get back to his feet!
cometa takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch but cometa swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Diaz looks up at the clock and then as cometa takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Diaz smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nate Diaz.
Well Diaz has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
