The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

barnett shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
barnett wants to control from the top but Valdouch keeps moving.
barnett won't allow Valdouch to sweep him here.
barnett won't allow Valdouch to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Valdouch throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
barnett will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Valdouch wants to stand and escape but barnett is having none of it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

barnett fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Valdouch sprawls well initially but barnett persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
barnett wants to free his trapped foot but Valdouch is holding on for dear life with his legs.
barnett wants to control but Valdouch is keeping him busy.
Valdouch is trying to get back to full guard.

Valdouch has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but barnett has passed into side control.
Valdouch tries to improve position but can't.
Valdouch is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, barnett asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Valdouch is looking to reverse the position.

barnett has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Valdouch wants to control but barnett postures up.
The referee asks barnett politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. barnett prefers to stall for the moment though.
Valdouch is not content to let barnett control the position.

Valdouch sneaks out the side door and pushes barnett away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
