The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

hwdp gets a takedown into half guard.

hwdp is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

hwdp seems to be working for a kimura but Thomas defends the submission attempt.
Thomas tries to regain full guard. Instead though, hwdp has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

hwdp is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Thomas has managed to escape the submission attempt.

hwdp goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Thomas turns into him and now he's in hwdp's guard.

hwdp had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Thomas defends it easily.

hwdp is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Thomas defends well.

hwdp looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Thomas content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because hwdp has locked up a guillotine! hwdp's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Thomas is holding on here and hwdp must be using up a lot of energy. Thomas has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! hwdp gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
