Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andy Souwer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Philemon Roxas!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Joseph Jones and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roxas throws a combination that misses
and Souwer counters with a straight right hand.
Souwer throws a one two combo.
Roxas throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Souwer counters with a nice double leg into side control. Roxas won't be happy with that.
Roxas taking punishment in the form of punches.

Souwer decides to stand back up.
Roxas misses with a combination

so Souwer counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Souwer trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Roxas manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Souwer looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Roxas has picked Souwer up and slammed him! Souwer can't keep hold of the triangle and Roxas manages to pass to side control!

Souwer tries to improve position but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Souwer is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Roxas is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Roxas can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Souwer is looking to escape.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Roxas throws a left and a right that both miss

and Souwer decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Roxas's guard.

Souwer is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Roxas is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Roxas has escaped and now he's on top!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Souwer is on top in guard.
Roxas preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Souwer drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Roxas dives on top into guard.
Souwer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Roxas is refusing to be controlled, as Souwer sits in half guard.
Souwer is looking to advance position but Roxas won't allow it.

Souwer perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Souwer looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Souwer is looking for a kimura but Roxas is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Souwer to get the leverage.

Souwer seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Roxas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Souwer seems to be working for a kimura but Roxas defends the submission attempt.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Souwer wants to work for an arm triangle but Roxas is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Souwer shoots in for a takedown but Roxas shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Roxas misses with a double jab

so Souwer counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Souwer trying to control but Roxas is working from the bottom.
Souwer pushing down on Roxas's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Souwer is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Souwer is keen to just control but Roxas is a slippery customer.
Roxas wants to get back to his feet.

Souwer looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Roxas with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Souwer is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Souwer missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Souwer prevents Roxas from getting back to his feet.
Souwer postures up in Roxas's guard and throws a big left but Roxas blocks it.
Souwer looking to pass the guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Roxas keeping moving, preventing Souwer from controlling successfully.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Souwer postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Roxas is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Souwer, into his guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Souwer keeping full guard, as Roxas tries to pass.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Andy Souwer.
Roxas throws a combination that misses

and Souwer counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Souwer.
Souwer trying to control but Roxas is working from the bottom.

Souwer throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Andy Souwer is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
