PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Coller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trevor McCumby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Trevor McCumby!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Luis Engracia and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCumby swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Coller takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

McCumby clinches up against the cage.
Coller can't break the clinch.
Coller is trying to force a seperation but McCumby has the dominant position.
Coller wants a takedown.
Coller tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Coller is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

McCumby escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McCumby misses with a left hand
and Coller cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Coller dives in and grabs McCumby's left leg, looking for a takedown. McCumby pushes down on Coller's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Coller. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McCumby scores with a sloppy right hand. Coller should have avoided that one.

McCumby instigates a clinch.
Coller goes for a takedown in the clinch but McCumby prevents it.
Coller drops to a knee looking for a takedown but McCumby gets the underhooks and prevents it.

McCumby keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

McCumby closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

McCumby jumps guard and drags Coller to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Coller might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Coller drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but McCumby manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Coller has McCumby in his guard.

McCumby is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
McCumby tries to free his leg and advance position but Coller is retaining full guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
McCumby is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
McCumby must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Trevor McCumby has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
McCumby scores with the left hand. Coller knows he should have avoided that one.
Trevor McCumby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McCumby shoots in and bounces Coller off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McCumby has Coller pressed against the cage, preventing Coller from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

McCumby escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Coller tries to move into range but McCumby moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

McCumby throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Coller on the side of the head.
McCumby lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Coller takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
McCumby connects with a jab.
Coller takes one to the chin there.
Coller misses with a takedown attempt - McCumby sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Coller takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
McCumby connects with a right hand. Coller shakes it off.

and McCumby connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Coller takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

McCumby has taken the fight to the clinch.

McCumby breaks the clinch.
McCumby uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Coller has time to react.
McCumby bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Coller's head.
Coller drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Coller is trying to drag McCumby to the mat but McCumby just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Coller has McCumby pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. McCumby manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

McCumby breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
McCumby connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

McCumby closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Coller did well to prevent McCumby getting side control.

McCumby decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Coller postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McCumby is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Coller, into his guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

McCumby feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well McCumby has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
