PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Boltok Sagdiev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jai Gun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Boltok Sagdiev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jai Gun!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gun looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Sagdiev!
Gun controlling from the full mount.
Gun tries to control but Sagdiev wriggling away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sagdiev wants to hold on but Gun pushes him away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gun throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Gun thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Poor strikes thrown by Gun there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Gun trying to control but Sagdiev is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gun is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sagdiev is surviving well by controlling Gun's body position as best he can.
Gun takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Gun punching from mount but Sagdiev doing a good job of avoiding damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sagdiev is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Gun thowing shots but they're missing.
Gun throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Gun sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gun looking to control and managing it successfully.
Gun's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
I looks like Gun might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jai Gun dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Gun misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sagdiev with a poor takedown
and Gun counters with an inside leg kick.

and Gun counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Gun forces his way into half guard.
Sagdiev is trying to control but Gun manages to pass to mount!
Gun landing strikes from the mount and Sagdiev is in trouble!

Gun looking to ground and pound but Sagdiev is blocking nicely.
Gun can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sagdiev is looking to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sagdiev wants to hold on but Gun pushes him away.
Gun controlling the position easily from mount.
Gun trying to control but Sagdiev is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Gun throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gun trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gun controlling from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jai Gun showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Sagdiev doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Gun counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sagdiev won't be happy with that.

Sagdiev sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Gun trying to control the action but Sagdiev is working from the bottom.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Gun wants to pass the guard but Sagdiev is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gun seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sagdiev does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jai Gun hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Sagdiev darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Gun looks like he's trying to stand up.
Sagdiev stalling away here and it's allowed Gun to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Sagdiev trying to control the position from guard on top but Gun is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sagdiev stays in close to Gun's body and controls the position.
Gun wants to sweep but no luck.
Jai Gun has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sagdiev wants to control from the top but Gun keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Boltok Sagdiev wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Sagdiev misses with a takedown

so Gun counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Gun trying to control but Sagdiev is working from the bottom.
Gun has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sagdiev is proving hard to escape from.
Gun takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sagdiev wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Gun slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jai Gun comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gun has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
