PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Masutatsu Oyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oyama comes to the ring accompanied by Ghosts N Stuff. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masutatsu Oyama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nate Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Sosuke Kotani and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson pushes Oyama up against the ropes in a clinch.
Johnson tries to pull guard but Oyama holds him up against the ropes and eventually Johnson drops back down to his feet.
Johnson is looking to break free of the clinch but Oyama has double underhooks.
Oyama is pressed up against the ropes. Johnson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Oyama down to the mat. Oyama avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Johnson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Johnson misses with a low kick.

Oyama shoots in and bounces Johnson off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Johnson wants to stand and escape but Oyama is having none of it.

Oyama decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Some wild striking there from Johnson.
Johnson doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Oyama counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Johnson is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Masutatsu Oyama has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nate Johnson.

Johnson wants to clinch but Oyama slips to the side

and Oyama counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Oyama.

Oyama not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Oyama drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Johnson dives on top into guard.

Oyama on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Oyama tries to get out of the position.
Johnson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Oyama is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Johnson controls the position.
Oyama takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Johnson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Oyama, who protects the arm well.

Oyama is looking for a sweep.
Oyama is not content to let Johnson control the position.

Johnson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Oyama to his feet.
Johnson tries to clinch
and Oyama counters with a head kick. That will keep Johnson thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Johnson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Johnson showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Oyama is looking to improve his position.
Johnson is looking to take a break and control but Oyama is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Johnson moves nicely into side control.
Johnson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Johnson throws a nice looking combination but Oyama bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Johnson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Johnson is keen to just control but Oyama is a slippery customer.

Johnson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Oyama knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnson on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Masutatsu Oyama will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Johnson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Johnson doesn't manage to clinch there - Oyama circles away.
Oyama throws a sloppy head kick

and Johnson counters by moving into the clinch.
Oyama has had enough of the clinch but Johnson keeps him there for the moment.
Oyama wants to get back to striking at distance but Johnson won't allow it.
