Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Miroslav Olipko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Thorton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miroslav Olipko has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Miroslav Olipko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tom Thorton!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thorton has closed the distance and engaged Olipko in a clinch.
Olipko tries to pull guard but Thorton won't allow it.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Thorton.
Thorton is working for takedown but Olipko is calmly controlling the position for now.

Olipko pulls guard effortlessly.
Thorton connects with a couple of short punches.

Olipko working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Thorton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Thorton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Olipko might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Olipko tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Thorton just stands there and leans against the cage.

Thorton is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Olipko has momentary wrist control but Thorton slips an elbow through the middle.

Thorton tries to free his leg and advance position but Olipko is retaining full guard.

Thorton got a little sloppy there for a moment and Olipko has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Thorton has managed to get both his arms back between Olipko's legs - danger averted.

Olipko is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Thorton defends well.

Thorton is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Olipko is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Olipko has escaped and now he's on top!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Thorton is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Olipko is controlling him.
Thorton bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Olipko's guard.

Thorton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Olipko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Olipko uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Thorton closes the distance and clinches.

Olipko throws a knee to the head but misses.
Olipko tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Thorton smiles and moves away.

and Thorton counters with a shoot takedown. Olipko fights it but they end up in guard.

Olipko has his hands on Thorton's head, controlling the position.
Thorton trying to move into half guard but instead Olipko has managed to sweep!
Olipko wants to control from the top but Thorton keeps moving.
Thorton is trying to hold Olipko in close to prevent damage but Olipko has managed to pass into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Olipko is working for a kimura but Thorton is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Miroslav Olipko will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Thorton counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Olipko's guard now.
Thorton is working Olipko over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Olipko controls Thorton momentarily but Thorton frees himself.
Thorton wants to control from the top but Olipko keeps moving.
Thorton wants to stand but Olipko is controlling his posture from full guard.
Tom Thorton has got the better of the ground game so far.
Thorton throws and elbow that misses. Olipko uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Thorton's guard. Nice move by Olipko!
Olipko postures up in Thorton's guard and throws a big left but Thorton blocks it.

Thorton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Olipko drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Olipko jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Olipko is working Thorton over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Thorton keeping moving, preventing Olipko from controlling successfully.

Olipko is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Thorton is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Olipko has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Thorton can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Thorton is looking to work some ground and pound but Olipko has wrist control.

Thorton seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Olipko lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Thorton!

Olipko is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Olipko extends the arm and Thorton is forced to tap!
