PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sam Bellamy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bellamy kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Confined. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Bellamy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rob Ward!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ward tries to clinch but Bellamy moves out of range.
Horrible takedown by Ward or perhaps it was just good defense by Bellamy which made him look bad.
A left and a right from Ward both land. Nice combination.


Bellamy is rocked!
Ward fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bellamy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ward but Ward pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Bellamy keeps control of Ward as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Bellamy is breathing heavily.

Ward pulls guard successfully.
Ward is looking to stand up but Bellamy isn't so interested in that idea.

Bellamy wants to pass the guard but Ward is keeping the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bellamy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ward wants to stand up but Bellamy is controlling him.
Ward is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Bellamy swats away the attempt to clinch by Ward.
Ward doesn't manage to clinch there - Bellamy circles away.
Ward shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Bellamy counters with a single leg into guard. Ward didn't expect that.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bellamy passes Ward's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Ward is refusing to be controlled, as Bellamy sits in half guard.
Ward preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Bellamy lands with some strikes.
Ward tries to hold on but Bellamy postures up.
Ward is controlling an arm, preventing Bellamy from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Bellamy looking to control but Ward is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Ward tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ward is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Bellamy seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Ward is holding on tight.
Ward is squirming around, avoiding Bellamy's attempts to control the action.

Bellamy cracks Ward with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ward's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Ward gets back to half guard.
Ward works his way to full guard. Good work.
Ward wants to get back to his feet but Bellamy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Bellamy trying to control but Ward is working from the bottom.
Ward is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Ward is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Ward is trying to stall.
Ward is working for takedown but Bellamy is calmly controlling the position for now.
Sam Bellamy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rob Ward.

Bellamy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Ward moves into the clinch.
Ward stalling in the clinch but Bellamy improves position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Ward dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Bellamy shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Ward shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Bellamy counters with a shoot takedown. Ward fights it but they end up in guard.
Bellamy trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Bellamy preventing the sweep.
Bellamy stops Ward from standing up.

Bellamy drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Bellamy as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Ward screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Bellamy! Nice submission victory there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Sam Bellamy!
