PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Martin Wallae (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike Cole will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Martin Wallae!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Cole!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cole fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Wallae gets the takedown into side control.
Cole is trying to escape the position but Wallae is controlling the position.
Cole prevents Wallae from moving into mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wallae controls the position.
Cole stops Wallae from passing to mount.
Cole is looking for a sweep.
The referee asks Wallae politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Wallae prefers to stall for the moment though.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Cole tries to buck Wallae off but Wallae is having none of it.
Cole is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Cole is letting Wallae control him for a moment.

Wallae is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cole is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Wallae happy to just control the position for now.
Cole is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
You can see the frustration on Cole's face as Wallae controls the position.
Cole is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Martin Wallae just wasn't active enough.

Cole gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Wallae not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Cole is striking from the bottom but Wallae uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Still in half guard, Wallae seems content to control.
Wallae seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cole for as long as he can get away with.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wallae is looking to advance position but Cole won't allow it.
Wallae controlling the action here.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Martin Wallae just wasn't active enough.
Wallae tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cole swivels and escapes.
Wallae is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cole sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Wallae shoots in for a takedown but Cole shows good takedown defense.

Wallae wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving.
Wallae engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Martin Wallae dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Wallae takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Cole misses with a head kick.
Wallae defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cole.

and Wallae counters by clinching up.

Wallae gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Cole regains guard.
Wallae is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Cole is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Wallae is stalling in the full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Wallae controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Wallae is pushing down on Cole's leg trying to pass to half guard. Cole is fighting to maintain full guard but Wallae has managed to sneak the leg through.

Wallae stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Cole to get to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Wallae feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Wallae is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Wallae tries to free his leg and advance position but Cole is retaining full guard.

Wallae stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cole swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Wallae forces his way into half guard.
Cole has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wallae is working away from the top position though.

Wallae content to control rather than advance.
Cole trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Wallae manages to pass to mount!

Wallae looking to secure an arm triangle but Cole defends it well.
Wallae controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cole is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Wallae is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Wallae blocks a head kick by Cole.
Mike Cole is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wallae fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Martin Wallae. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cole tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wallae swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cole misses with a jab, cross combination.

and Wallae decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cole's guard.
Wallae is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Wallae dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Wallae shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wallae showed some decent athleticism there.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wallae in particular looking to stall.
Wallae has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Wallae passes the guard and advances to mount!
Martin Wallae overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cole bucks up and throws Wallae to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Wallae scores with a takedown into Cole's guard.
Wallae forces his way into half guard.
Wallae stalling.
Cole wants to control but Wallae is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wallae performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Cole pushes Wallae off looking to stand but Wallae dives back in and keeps control.
Wallae works his foot free and advances to mount.

Wallae stands up from mount. Strange move.
Cole tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Wallae decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cole's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cole is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Wallae dives into side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Wallae thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Wallae staying calm.
Wallae is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cole can do to turn this around?
Cole is trying to get back to half guard.
Wallae moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Martin Wallae is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Cole pushes Wallae away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Wallae gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Wallae in side control, just content to control the action for now.

We're going to have a standup here because Martin Wallae wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Wallae shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wallae showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wallae prevents Cole from standing back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Martin Wallae showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wallae, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
