Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ian McIanson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Valery Georgievich Karpin!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Valeri Chadov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karpin throws a nice looking combination but McIanson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
The fight stays on the outside here - Karpin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Karpin scores with a crisp jab that stopped McIanson in his tracks.


It looks like Ian McIanson has been cut.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from McIanson is defended easily by Karpin.

McIanson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Karpin sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

McIanson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
McIanson tries to control but Karpin wriggling away.
McIanson lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Karpin hang on?

Karpin is looking to improve his position but McIanson isn't that keen on the idea.
McIanson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ian McIanson will probably get the nod.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Karpin cracks McIanson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Karpin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

McIanson ducks under a wild hook from Karpin.
McIanson wants to clinch
and Karpin counters with a two punch combo.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Karpin connects with the punch.
Karpin slaps away a takedown attempt from McIanson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
McIanson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Karpin is fending him off so far but McIanson persists. Nope, Karpin circles away and we're back to standing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Karpin wants to clinch.
McIanson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Karpin tries to avoid it but McIanson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Karpin to the ground. Karpin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ian McIanson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Karpin fails to land with a series of punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Valery Georgievich Karpin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Karpin tries to close the distance and clinch but McIanson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Karpin lands with a right hand.


McIanson is rocked!
Valery Georgievich Karpin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Karpin slaps away a takedown attempt from McIanson, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Karpin throws a right hand that McIanson ducks under and follows up with a left that McIanson also avoids with ease.
McIanson misses with a takedown

and Karpin counters by clinching up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Karpin drops McIanson with a big knee straight up the middle! McIanson is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!
Oh McIanson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Karpin wants to clinch up but McIanson keeps it at a distance.
Karpin fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. McIanson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
McIanson seems to have got his legs back now.
McIanson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Karpin tries to clinch but McIanson moves out of range.

Karpin lands a left and a right that send McIanson crashing to the mat, dazed. Karpin thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
McIanson shoots in looking for a takedown. Karpin tries to sprawl out of it but McIanson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Karpin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ian McIanson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Valery Georgievich Karpin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Karpin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
