PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Daniel E (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Koff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think E might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Crank that. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel E!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Koff!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Edson Gomes and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koff sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
E tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mike Koff seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
E tries to clinch but Koff is having none of it.

Koff closes the distance and clinches.
Koff prevents a takedown attempt there.
E wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
E wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Koff wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but E has him pressed against the cage.
E tries to score a body lock takedown but Koff shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Koff stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

E is fighting off a takedown attempt but Koff is just too persistent for him and manages to trip E to the mat. E regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Koff wants to pass the guard but E is keeping the position.
Koff must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Koff stops E from standing up.
Koff scoring with some ground and pound.

E looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
E controls Koff momentarily but Koff frees himself.
Koff lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
E working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Koff.

That's one minute gone in the round.
E keeping moving, preventing Koff from controlling successfully.
Koff stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. E swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Koff won't allow E to sweep him here.

Koff gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
E tries to close the distance and clinch but Koff swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Koff shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts E as he jumps to the side.
Koff throws a series of punches but E moves out of range.
Koff looks gassed!
E pulls out of a head kick attempt.
E with a lazy takedown attempt

so Koff counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel E. That's going to take a lot out of him.
E keeping full guard, as Koff tries to pass.
Koff connects with a couple of short punches.
Koff looking to pass the guard.
E wants to stand up but Koff is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Koff drops back looking for a leg! E is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and E manages to kick Koff off! Koff jumps back into E's guard.

Koff postures up in E's guard and throws a big left but E blocks it.
Koff throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as E works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

E instigates a clinch.

E manages to break the clinch.
E misses with a takedown attempt

and Koff counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fighters are battling for position here. E manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

E is rocked!
Koff looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Oh E is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Koff throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as E works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
E seems to have got his legs back now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
E controls Koff momentarily but Koff frees himself.
Koff scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Koff is working E over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
E wants to sweep here but Koff controlling him for the moment.
E preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Koff postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Koff decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on E, up you get!
A punch combination from E misses.
E scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
E pulls out of a head kick attempt.
E tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Koff counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
E has hold of Koff's hands but Koff slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Koff landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Koff stands up from half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Koff throws a looping overhand right but E ducks down to avoid it.
Koff swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and E counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

E drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Koff is trying to control E's posture but E avoids it.
E trying to control the action but Koff is working from the bottom.

E decides to take the fight back to the feet.

E gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Koff keeps control of E as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Koff drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
E tries to score a body lock takedown but Koff shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Koff has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics E uses from the top position.
Koff bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in E's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Koff dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


E fails with the takedown

and Koff counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Koff drops an elbow to the side of E's head.
Koff working over E with some ground and pound. E looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Koff stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
E lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
This has been an exciting period of action!
E wants to clinch

and Koff shoots in for a double leg counter - driving through into a slam and E is out! The slam has knocked him out cold! Devastating for E but Koff is celebrating as the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Mike Koff!
