PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Perry Roscrow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Drew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roscrow's entrance music is Big Time. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Perry Roscrow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, James Drew!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roscrow on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Drew shoots for a takedown but Roscrow saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Drew shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Roscrow as he jumps to the side.

Drew feints and as Roscrow raises his hands in defense, Drew changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Drew trying to control but Roscrow is working from the bottom.
Drew won't allow Roscrow to sweep him here.
Drew wants to control from the top but Roscrow keeps moving.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. James Drew wasn't active enough on the ground.
Drew throws a push kick but Roscrow slaps the foot to one side.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drew tries to clinch there but Roscrow circles away.
Drew tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Roscrow swivels and escapes.
Perry Roscrow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Drew.
Drew attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Roscrow avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Drew looks for a takedown but Roscrow sprawls well.
Drew tries to clinch up.
Drew tries for a takedown but Roscrow sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Drew looks gassed!
Roscrow keeps the fight on the outside.
Drew doesn't manage to clinch there - Roscrow circles away.
Roscrow throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Drew's waist but Drew gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Roscrow off to one side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Drew throws a head kick that misses.
Drew fails in his attempt to clinch.

and Roscrow counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Roscrow stands up from half guard.

Roscrow bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Roscrow decides to stand up, so the ref orders Drew to his feet.

Roscrow shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Drew's guard.
Roscrow stays in close to Drew's body and controls the position.
Roscrow seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Drew for as long as he can get away with.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Roscrow is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Roscrow trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Roscrow stands and steps away. Drew gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Roscrow shoots in and drives through. Drew sprawls well.
Drew closes the distance looking to clinch

and Roscrow counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Roscrow keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Drew moves into full guard.
Roscrow tries to free his leg and advance position but Drew is retaining full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Roscrow not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roscrow wants to pass the guard but Drew is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Perry Roscrow dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Drew tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Roscrow counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Drew!
Roscrow throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Roscrow prevents Drew from getting the reversal.
Drew is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Roscrow sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Roscrow thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Drew tries to hold on but Roscrow postures up.
Roscrow trying to control but Drew is having none of it.
Roscrow controlling his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Drew tries to reverse the position but Roscrow maintains control.
Roscrow takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Drew is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Drew holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Roscrow tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Roscrow throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Roscrow swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Drew is now in Roscrow's guard. A big mistake from Roscrow there, giving up the dominant position!
Roscrow keeping moving, preventing Drew from controlling successfully.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Roscrow.
Drew throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Roscrow's head.
Roscrow dodges the punch combination from Drew.

Drew clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Drew's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Drew tries to clinch up.
Roscrow shoots in looking for a takedown. Drew tries to sprawl out of it but Roscrow keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Drew manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Drew moves into the clinch.
Roscrow drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Perry Roscrow. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Drew throws a punch but it's blocked by Roscrow.
Drew wants a takedown but no success here.

Drew manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Perry Roscrow will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Roscrow circles away from the clinch attempt.
Drew tries to close the distance and clinch up but Roscrow swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Roscrow counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Roscrow connects with a couple of short punches.
Roscrow stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Drew swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Drew wants to sweep but no luck.
Roscrow wants to control from the top but Drew keeps moving.

Perry Roscrow has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Roscrow avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
A head kick misses from Drew.

Drew moves into the clinch.
Drew missing with knees to the body.
Drew lands a right hand that snaps the head of Roscrow backwards.
Roscrow avoiding damage as Drew throws knees to the body.
Drew throws an elbow that misses.
Drew is looking to break free of the clinch but Roscrow has double underhooks.

Drew pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Roscrow looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Drew is fending him off so far but Roscrow persists. Nope, Drew circles away and we're back to standing.
Drew gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Roscrow counters with a single leg into guard. Drew didn't expect that.
Drew is trying to control the position but Roscrow postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Roscrow decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Drew, up you get!
Roscrow tries for a takedown but Drew circles away easily

and Drew decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Roscrow's guard.
Drew throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Roscrow works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Roscrow had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Drew defends it easily.
Roscrow is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Drew must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Drew wants to pass the guard but Roscrow is keeping the position.

Roscrow keeping moving, preventing Drew from controlling successfully.

Roscrow kicks Drew off and gets to his feet.
Drew is looking to clinch.

Roscrow closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Well, if Roscrow is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Roscrow, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
