The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza throws a looping overhand right but Layfield ducks down to avoid it.
Layfield fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Souza on the side of the head.
Some wild striking there from Layfield.
Layfield lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
John Layfield seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Souza scores with the left hand. Layfield knows he should have avoided that one.
No joy there for Layfield, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Layfield swings for the body but Souza moves out of range.
Layfield tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Souza was well out of range. Poor timing from Layfield.
Souza takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Souza missing with a left hand there. Layfield was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Layfield looks to land a left hand but Souza moved out of range nicely.
Souza lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Souza throws a jab when Layfield was well out of range.
Layfield misses with an uppercut. Souza saw that one coming.
Layfield misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Layfield fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Souza looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Souza looks gassed!
Layfield paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
A jab from Layfield finds it's way through Souza's defenses.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Layfield misses with a looping left.
Souza staying out of range there.
Souza takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Layfield cracks Souza on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Souza falls backwards against the cage. Layfield follows up with more strikes that drop Souza to his knees. Layfield keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Souza! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Layfield!
