PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frank Chico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dustin Dollar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Chico!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dustin Dollar!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Reed Andrews and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dollar throws a nice head kick!
Chico lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Dustin Dollar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Chico shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dollar's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Chico wanted to stand there but Dollar had control of the position.
Chico trying to control the position from guard on top but Dollar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chico looking to sit in guard and control but Dollar gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Dollar wants to stand but Chico is controlling his posture from full guard.

Chico is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Chico looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Chico is working hard here to advance position.
Dollar would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Chico is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Chico escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dollar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Dollar tries to stand but Chico is controlling from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dollar stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Chico lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
A big left from Dollar misses.
Dollar looks gassed!
Chico swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Dollar throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Chico counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Dollar keeping full guard, as Chico tries to pass.

Dollar kicks Chico off and gets to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chico shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dollar sprawls well. Dollar wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Chico gets slowly back to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Chico.
A head kick misses from Dollar.

Dollar scores a takedown into full mount!
Chico wants to hold on but Dollar pushes him away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dollar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Chico is desperately trying to improve his position but Dollar has a good base and remains in mount.
Chico tries to hold on but Dollar postures up.

Dollar is standing up, even though he is in mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dollar misses with a combination

and Chico counters with a single leg into guard. Dollar didn't expect that.
Chico throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dollar works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Frank Chico will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Nice takedown defense from Dollar. No joy for Chico on that attempt.

Chico closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Dollar quickly recovers to half guard.

Dollar kicks off Chico and gets to his feet.
Dollar fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Frank Chico is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Dollar closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Chico to the mat! Chico manages to get full guard.
Chico is trying to keep Dollar in close.
Dollar trying to stand up but can't free himself from Chico's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Dollar gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Dollar throws a head kick but Chico moves out of range.

Dollar closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Chico to the mat! Chico manages to get full guard.

Dollar stands up from guard. Let's bang!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Chico is defended easily by Dollar.
Chico showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Dollar.
Dollar misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Dollar throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Chico counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Dollar fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Chico throws a head kick that misses.
Dollar throws a head kick but Chico moves out of range.

Dollar shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Dustin Dollar has got the better of the ground game so far.
Chico really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Dollar stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Dollar falls off balance throwing a combination

and Chico decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dollar's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Chico stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dollar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chico postures up in Dollar's guard and throws a big left but Dollar blocks it.
Dollar has a closed guard, preventing Chico from standing up.

Chico drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Dollar dives on top into guard.
Chico looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Chico is working an open guard so Dollar takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Dollar is trying hard to land a takedown here. Chico sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Dollar shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Dollar stands up out of the half guard.
Chico shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Dollar defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Chico. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dollar gets the takedown into side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dollar decides to stand back up. Dollar steps back and let's Chico get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dustin Dollar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Chico looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dollar is fending him off so far but Chico persists. Nope, Dollar circles away and we're back to standing.
Chico tries to clinch but Dollar is having none of it.

Dollar shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Dollar gets to his feet - Chico follows without any prompting.
Dollar tries a head kick but it misses.
Chico tries for a takedown but Dollar sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Chico gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Dollar connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

and Dollar counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Chico!

Dollar stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Chico throws a front kick that sends Dollar stumbling back into the cage.
Chico lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Chico misses with a head kick.

Dollar looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Dollar is looking to stand up but Chico won't let him.
Dollar is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Chico looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Dollar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Chico working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dollar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dollar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dollar won't allow Chico to get back to his feet.

Dollar decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Chico darts in trying to clinch
and Dollar counters with a big head kick but Chico shrugs it off.
Dollar throws a head kick that misses.
Chico clinches but Dollar breaks the clinch
and Dollar counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Chico is lucky that one didn't land flush.


It looks like Frank Chico has been cut.

A punch combination from Dollar misses.
Chico lands a nice hook to Dollar's body. Dollar takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Chico misses with a double jab.
Dollar throws a right and a left that both miss.
Dollar throws a combination that misses

and Chico counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Dollar's guard now.
Chico wants to pass the guard but Dollar is keeping the position.
Chico wants to control from the top but Dollar keeps moving.

Chico not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Chico tries to free his leg and advance position but Dollar is retaining full guard.
Chico throws a big right hand that misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Dustin Dollar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dollar has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
