PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Yung Dragun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thai Shu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dragun's entrance music is Fire Starter ( The prodigy ). A fine choice. Shu has chosen We International as his entrance music. Thai Shu acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yung Dragun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Thai Shu!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shu shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Dragun wants to try and get back to his feet.
Dragun bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Dragun trying to control but Shu is working from the bottom.
Shu wants to stand and escape but Dragun is having none of it.
Dragun tries to free his leg and advance position but Shu is retaining full guard.
Dragun scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Shu keeping full guard, as Dragun tries to pass.
Shu wants to sweep here but Dragun controlling him for the moment.
Shu utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dragun trying to control the position from guard on top but Shu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Shu pushes Dragun off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Dragun tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Shu manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Shu checks the leg kick nicely there.
Dragun doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Shu decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dragun's guard.
Shu is looking to work some ground and pound but Dragun has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shu trying to control but Dragun is working from the bottom.
Shu throws a strike but Dragun rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Dragun wants to control from the top but Shu keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dragun keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Shu's head.
Dragun is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Dragun pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shu is keeping the position for now.

Shu pushes Dragun off and gets back to his feet.
Dragun fails in his attempt to clinch.
The fighters circle momentarily. Shu darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Dragun bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Dragun tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Shu throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Dragun fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Shu avoids it really well and circles away.
Shu throws a series of punches but Dragun avoids them all with ease.

Shu moves into range and clinches up with Dragun.
Dragun scores with a hook to the body.

Dragun has picked Shu up - he's going for a ride! Dragun dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shu has one foot on Dragun's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dragun bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Dragun is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shu tries to buck Dragun off but Dragun is having none of it.
Dragun throws a strike aimed at the side of Shu's head but Shu avoids it well.
Dragun is trying to ground and pound but Shu uses the momentary lack of control by Dragun to regain half guard.
Dragun trying to control the action but Shu is working from the bottom.
Dragun tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Shu is trying to maintain the position but Dragun is very close to passing his half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Yung Dragun will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Dragun misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Shu throws a body kick that misses.
Shu shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Dragun but Dragun pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Horrible takedown by Dragun or perhaps it was just good defense by Shu which made him look bad.

Shu looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Shu throws and elbow that misses. Dragun uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Shu's guard. Nice move by Dragun!
Shu wants to sweep here but Dragun controlling him for the moment.
Shu trying to keep a closed guard but Dragun is proving a slippery customer.
Dragun stays in close to Shu's body and controls the position.

Shu keeping full guard, as Dragun tries to pass.
Dragun passes into half guard.
Dragun wants to take a breather but Shu is having none of it.

Dragun is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Shu is just riding it out for now. Dragun eventually gives up the hold.
Dragun stops Shu from getting back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Dragun thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shu's head.

Dragun prevents Shu from improving his position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Dragun lands a nice short elbow.
Dragun seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shu does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Dragun is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Shu is just riding it out for now. Dragun eventually gives up the hold.

Shu is trying to stand up here but Dragun is controlling him well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dragun tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shu knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Shu wants to get back to his feet.

Dragun seems to be looking for submissions.
Dragun prevents Shu from improving his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yung Dragun dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

and Dragun counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Dragun seems to be working for a kimura but Shu defends the submission attempt.
Dragun tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shu knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Dragun is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Shu defends it well.
Shu tries to kick Dragun off but Dragun keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Dragun is trying to control the action in half guard but Shu is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Dragun lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Shu is not content to let Dragun control the position.

Dragun stops Shu from getting back to his feet.
Shu takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Dragun wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shu keeps working.
Yung Dragun overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Shu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Dragun is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Shu defends it well.

Shu throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Dragun holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Shu escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No joy there for Dragun, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dragun misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Shu bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Dragun is looking for a sweep.
Dragun is working hard here to advance position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shu trying to control the action but Dragun is working from the bottom.
Shu throws an elbow but Dragun slips to the side and avoids it well.
Dragun tries to buck Shu off but Shu is having none of it.
Shu tries to score with some ground and pound. Dragun controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Dragun sneaks back into half guard.
Shu wants to pass to mount but Dragun is defending the position.
Shu landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Dragun is refusing to be controlled, as Shu sits in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dragun is trying to stand up here but Shu is controlling him well.
Dragun keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Dragun slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Dragun trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Shu working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Shu thows a big elbow that misses.
Shu must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Dragun is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Shu looking to sit in guard and control but Dragun gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yung Dragun showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dragun, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
