PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Egbert Van Der Dick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Brookins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Der Dick has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. The key to victory for Egbert Van Der Dick has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jonathan Brookins!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Sam Margolis and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Der Dick tries to close the distance and clinch up but Brookins swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The fight stays on the outside here - Van Der Dick looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Brookins is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Brookins closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Van Der Dick did well to prevent Brookins getting side control.

Brookins has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Van Der Dick's face.

I looks like Brookins might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Brookins jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Van Der Dick manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Brookins remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Brookins shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Van Der Dick's guard.

Jonathan Brookins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Brookins must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Brookins is trying to drag Van Der Dick to the mat but Van Der Dick just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Brookins has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Brookins tightens his grip and picks Van Der Dick up, before dumping him to the ground. Van Der Dick manages to land in guard.

Jonathan Brookins comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Brookins has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
