PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bruno Dog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bruno Dog!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ryan Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson misses with a head kick.
Nelson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Dog shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nelson as he avoids it easily.
Nelson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Dog will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nelson lands a head kick. Dog smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Nelson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Dog fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruno Dog. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dog tries to pull guard but Nelson won't allow it.

Nelson breaks the clinch.

Nelson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Dog quickly recovers to half guard.
Dog trying to hold on to Nelson's head to control him but Nelson postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dog moves into full guard.

Dog is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nelson is aware though and is defending well.

Dog has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nelson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Nelson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dog manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Nelson has Dog in his guard.

Dog might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Dog is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Dog wants to get back to his feet but Nelson passes into half guard.
Dog wants to control but Nelson is keeping busy.
Dog wants to improve his position but Nelson is controlling well.

We're going to have a standup here because Bruno Dog wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Dog fails with the takedown

and Nelson counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Nelson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Nelson wants to get up but he can't break Dog's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nelson pulls Dog in close to prevent any damage.

Nelson wants to sweep here but Dog controlling him for the moment.

Dog is pushing down on Nelson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Nelson is fighting to maintain full guard but Dog has managed to sneak the leg through.
Dog uses his free foot to push down on Nelson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Nelson.

Dog is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Nelson can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Nelson is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Dog has taken his back.

Dog has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Nelson's body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ryan Nelson will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Nelson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nelson wants it to stay on the feet.

Dog moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Dog pulls Nelson in to control the position.
Nelson stopping the sweep attempt from Dog.
Nelson trying to control the position from guard on top but Dog is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dog is on top in guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dog stands and throws Nelson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nelson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Dog thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Dog wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nelson keeps working.
Dog tries to move to full mount but Nelson actually manages to regain half guard.

Dog is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Nelson has managed to free his arm - good work.
Dog passes to full mount!
Nelson is trying to escape the mount but Dog keeps good control and instead manages to take Nelson's back.

Nelson has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Dog.

Dog is looking for a rear naked choke here but Nelson reverses the position brilliantly into Dog's guard!
Dog manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nelson manages to get himself to full guard.

Dog is looking for a kimura here.
Nelson looks like he's trying to stand up.
Dog is trying to control the action in half guard but Nelson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Dog passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Nelson!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dog accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Dog working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Nelson looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Dog! Submission of the night perhaps?
