PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shinobu Morita (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Piston Honda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Piston Honda told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinobu Morita!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Fujiwara.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morita looks for the body kick but Honda saw that one coming.

Morita forces Honda back against the cage and clinches.
Morita gets underhooks to prevent Honda's takedown attempt.
Honda fails to pull guard.

Honda is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Morita can't fight it off and eventually Honda manages to take the fight to the floor. Morita looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Honda drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Morita dives on top into guard.

Honda keeping busy on the bottom but Morita has passed one foot through into half guard.
Morita seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Honda does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Morita wants to stand but Honda has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Honda avoids a punch combination nicely.
Morita lands a nice looking kick to the body. Honda takes a step back to recover.

Honda fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Shinobu Morita has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Piston Honda.

Morita escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Morita punishes Honda's body with a nice straight punch.

Morita seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Honda jumps guard but Morita stands there with Honda around his waist. Honda gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Morita prevents a takedown attempt there.

Honda can't get the takedown.
Honda drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Morita gets the underhooks and prevents it.
The referee calls for Morita to work.
Honda is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Morita is pressed up against the cage. Honda has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Morita down to the mat. Morita avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Honda shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Morita counters with a one-two to the body.
Morita will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Morita throws a leg kick but Honda moved away.

Morita swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Honda moves out of range as Morita throws a body kick.

Morita clinches up with Honda and pushes him back against the cage.
Honda tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Morita just stands there and leans against the cage.
Morita throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Honda blocks it with crossed arms.
Morita manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Honda changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Morita fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Morita tries to close the distance and clinch but Honda swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Honda darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Honda is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Morita is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
