Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derek Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patterson has chosen Ice Cream Paint Job as his entrance music. Derek Patterson struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 146.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Stone! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Derek Patterson! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patterson throws a head kick but Stone moves out of range.
Patterson throws a body punch but Stone moves out of range. Stone slips under a jab. Patterson jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Patterson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Good shot there by Patterson. Patterson getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Patterson connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Stone moves out of range as Patterson strikes. Patterson has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Patterson connects with a looping right hand.
Nice uppercut there from Patterson. Patterson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Patterson tries to clinch up. Patterson throws a combination. Stone tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Patterson walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Stone checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Patterson connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stone throws a leg kick but Patterson sees it coming and moves out of range. Patterson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Stone looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Patterson decides to take the fight back to the feet. Stone keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Stone changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Patterson tries to avoid it but Stone manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Patterson to the ground. Patterson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. A combination from Patterson does no damage. Patterson tries to score with a low kick but Stone moves his leg out of the way. Patterson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Stone is trying to defend but Patterson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Patterson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Stone sees it coming and defends easily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stone wants to improve his position but Patterson is controlling well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patterson seems to be looking for submissions.
Patterson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Stone has managed to free his arm - good work. Stone trying to control from the bottom.
Stone actively working from the bottom here. Patterson seems to be working for a kimura but Stone defends the submission attempt. Stone makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Stone.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stone looking for a sweep. Not yet Stone, not yet. Patterson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Stone is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Patterson is aware though and is defending well. Patterson works a leg free and moves into half guard. Stone is in trouble now - Patterson has advanced to mount! Patterson looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stone is trying desperately to improve position. Patterson goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Stone is on top in guard.
Patterson looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Stone thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Stone passes Patterson's right leg, so he's now in half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Derek Patterson dominated that round. That's time! Stone's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Patterson throws a hook but Stone avoids it easily. Patterson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Patterson clinches up against the cage. Stone gets underhooks to prevent Patterson's takedown attempt.
Patterson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Derek Patterson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Stone with a poor takedown enabling Patterson to counter with a crisp jab. Stone with a lazy takedown attempt and Patterson counters with a left and a right that stings Stone. Patterson fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Patterson with a hook. Nice jab there from Patterson. Patterson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Stone. A jab lands there for Patterson. Patterson scores with a jab. Patterson wants to clinch. Patterson misses with a looping right.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice defenses there by Stone. Stone fails with an attempt to clinch.
Patterson connects with a jab. Patterson slaps away a takedown attempt from Stone, before circling back to the center of the mat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Stone. That's going to take a lot out of him. Patterson clobbers Stone with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Stone slips a jab from Patterson. Patterson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Patterson wants it to stay on the feet. Patterson gets caught flat footed, as Stone shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Stone has gone for a leg lock! Patterson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Stone's guard. Patterson is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Stone has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Patterson is looking to defend but Stone has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Patterson! Stone pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Patterson taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jack Stone!
