Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Cena (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Alves's choice of entrance music: Zangief - Theme. John Cena has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Cena tries to score a power double leg takedown but Alves sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cena somewhat.

Alves turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Alves manages to end up in side control.
Cena tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alves wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Cena pushes Alves away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Alves gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Charlie Alves will probably get the nod.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alves wants to control but Cena is keeping him busy.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Cena counters with a left and a right that stings Alves.

Cena throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Cena has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Alves regains guard immediately.

Cena lands a right hand that snaps the head of Alves backwards.
Cena breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Alves is trying to drag Cena to the mat but Cena just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Cena is pushing Alves up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
