Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arik Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cannon comes to the cage accompanied by Junkie Man - Rancid. The crowd seem to be enjoying James's choice of entrance music: Black Betty. Arik Cannon could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Nick James's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Arik Cannon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick James!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James looks to throw the jab but Cannon is out of range.
Cannon misses with a looping left.

Cannon has taken the fight to the clinch.

Cannon lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Cannon takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
James gets back to full guard.

Cannon got a little sloppy there for a moment and James has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cannon has managed to get both his arms back between James's legs - danger averted.
James can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cannon controls the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cannon has gone for a leg lock! James slips out almost immediately though and dives into Cannon's guard.

Cannon is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. James is aware though and is defending well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

James postures up in Cannon's guard and throws a big left but Cannon blocks it.

Cannon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. James doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. James manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Cannon has his foot on James's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. James works his way back into a safe position though.

James lands with a nice body punch.

Cannon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cannon throws a series of punches but James avoids them all with ease.
James moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cannon.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


James bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
James takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Cannon misses with a straight right.

Cannon shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. James manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Cannon is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Cannon looking to sit in guard and control but James gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as James accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Cannon on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cannon tries to get out of the position.

Cannon has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. James is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Cannon.

Cannon isn't going anywhere.
James in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Arik Cannon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cannon tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cannon is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
James wants to control but Cannon is keeping him busy.
James has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Cannon has hold of James's hands but James slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Cannon is looking for a sweep. James is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Cannon is trying to control but can't.
Cannon wants to get back to full guard but James has mounted him!
Cannon tries to hold on but James pushes him away.
Cannon is trying desperately to improve position.

James has hold of Cannon's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Cannon manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cannon bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Cannon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cannon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Arik Cannon showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cannon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
