Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Cabana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Randy Duarte!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cabana gets a takedown into half guard.

Cabana wants to work for an arm triangle but Duarte is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Duarte won't allow Cabana to pass to mount.

Cabana is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Duarte is just riding it out for now. Cabana eventually gives up the hold.

Cabana bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Duarte's guard.

Cabana wants to get up but he can't break Duarte's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Cabana gets caught flat footed, as Duarte shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Duarte really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cabana. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Duarte got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cabana has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Duarte has managed to get both his arms back between Cabana's legs - danger averted.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Duarte stands up over Cabana, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Duarte lands a couple of digs.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cabana is on top in guard.

Cabana stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Duarte swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Duarte can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

so Cabana counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Duarte can't do much from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Duarte shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cabana's guard.

Jason Cabana overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Duarte postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Cabana is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Duarte frees his head nicely. Oh but Cabana has switched to an armbar! Duarte is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
