PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yoshi Manza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hank Hurley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Yoshi Manza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hank Hurley!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Manza moves into the clinch successfully.
Hurley looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Manza wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hurley has him pressed against the cage.

Manza manages to break the clinch.

Manza forces Hurley back against the cage and clinches.

Manza breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hurley lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Manza circles away quickly and effectively.

Manza rushes Hurley and presses him up against the cage.
Manza is trying to force a seperation but Hurley has the dominant position.
Manza keeps control of Hurley as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Manza breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Manza shoots in for a double leg but Hurley sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Manza drives through and clinches with Hurley against the cage.
Manza is looking to break free of the clinch but Hurley has double underhooks.
Manza is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Manza fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hurley, pushing him back against the cage.

The referee is keeping an eye on Manza - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Manza really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hurley darts in trying to clinch

and Manza counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Manza.

Manza breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Manza shoots in but no luck this time.

Manza is trying to control. Hurley wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Hurley is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Still in half guard, Manza seems content to control.

Manza gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Hurley tries to sprawl but Manza drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Manza wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hurley keeps working.

Manza missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Manza is looking to take a break and control but Hurley is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hurley is trying to stand up here but Manza is controlling him well.
Manza not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Manza wants to control but Hurley is keeping him busy.

We're going to have a standup here because Yoshi Manza wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Manza is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hurley throws a body kick the misses

and Manza moves into the clinch.
Manza stalling.

Manza breaks from the clinch.

Manza darts in and clinches Hurley up against the cage.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Manza trying to control but Hurley is having none of it.

Manza content just to control the position here.
Manza will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Manza has control of Hurley's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hurley regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Manza wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Manza controlling the position easily from mount.

Manza looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Manza is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hurley is surviving well by controlling Manza's body position as best he can.
Manza trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hurley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Manza. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Manza goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Hurley is on top in guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Hurley wants to stand but Manza is controlling his posture from full guard.
Manza bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hurley's guard.
Hurley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Manza drops back looking for a leg! Hurley is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hurley manages to kick Manza off! Manza jumps back into Hurley's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yoshi Manza dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Manza for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Manza has had enough of the clinch but Hurley keeps him there for the moment.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Yoshi Manza.

Manza's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Manza feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Manza has gone for a leg lock! Hurley slips out almost immediately though and dives into Manza's guard.

Hurley wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Manza's closed guard. He's half up but Manza has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Manza pivots and extends the arm, Hurley falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Manza! Well done that man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Yoshi Manza!
