The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes throws the kick towards the body but Oliveira avoids it.
Oliveira avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mendes tries to clinch but Oliveira is having none of it.

Oliveira scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mendes dodges the ground and pound from Oliveira.

Oliveira wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mendes, who protects the arm well.

Oliveira is trying to get an arm triangle but Mendes is defending well.
Oliveira has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Oliveira tries to move into full mount but can't pass Mendes's legs.

Oliveira tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mendes explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Oliveira dodges the punch combination from Mendes.
Mendes wants to clinch up but Oliveira keeps it at a distance.
Mendes connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Oliveira tumbling to the canvas! Mendes pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Oliveira was done - good stoppage!
