The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gerous lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kirby circles away quickly and effectively.
Gerous works over Kirby's head and body with a nice combination.

It looks like Joe Kirby has been cut.
Kirby closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gerous circles away.

Kirby has Gerous up against the cage in a clinch.
Kirby lands a body shot in the clinch.
Gerous tries to stall but Kirby uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Kirby lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Gerous misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Kirby.
Kirby lands an uppercut.

Gerous escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kirby keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kirby swings for the body but Gerous moves out of range.
Kirby throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Kirby is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Gerous's half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kirby looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
