Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nick Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mikhail Karpov!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Dmitry Maklakov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Diaz or perhaps it was just good defense by Karpov which made him look bad.
Karpov looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Diaz gets the takedown into side control.

Diaz looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Diaz working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Diaz has knee on belly and moves into mount.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Karpov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Diaz with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Diaz moves to back control.

Diaz is persistently looking for the submission but Karpov is defending it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Karpov is trying to stand back up.

Diaz looking to finish the fight with a rear naked choke. Karpov is controlling Diaz 's left arm and he spins nicely into guard.

Diaz has his foot on Karpov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Karpov works his way back into a safe position though.

Karpov trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom.
Diaz has a closed guard, preventing Karpov from standing up.
Karpov scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Karpov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Diaz is proving hard to escape from.
Diaz throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Karpov wants to stand and escape but instead Diaz has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Diaz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Diaz dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Diaz misses with a takedown attempt - Karpov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Karpov fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Karpov leaves Diaz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Karpov throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Diaz.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Diaz prevents Karpov from getting back to his feet.

Diaz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Karpov looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Karpov looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Karpov!
Karpov wants to stand but Diaz has his arm trapped.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Diaz struggling a bit here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karpov tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Nick Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Karpov stands up.
Diaz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Diaz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Karpov!

Diaz goes for an armbar but Karpov turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Karpov.

Diaz pushes a forearm under Karpov's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Karpov is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Nick Diaz!
