PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Daniel McVicar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kors Svardet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel McVicar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kors Svardet!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Ben Zyskovitsi and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McVicar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Svardet tries to avoid it but McVicar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Svardet to the ground. Svardet escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Svardet decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Svardet is stalling here. McVicar is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Svardet seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and McVicar has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Svardet can do anything to dispel that myth.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Svardet tries to score a power double leg takedown but McVicar sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Svardet somewhat.
Daniel McVicar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McVicar gets caught flat footed, as Svardet shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
McVicar controls Svardet momentarily but Svardet frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McVicar wants to hit a switch here but Svardet passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for McVicar there!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Svardet is just content to waste time from the top position. McVicar takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

McVicar manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Svardet manages to get himself to full guard.

Svardet is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and McVicar defends well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
McVicar throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Svardet works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

McVicar sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Svardet's guard.

Kors Svardet showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

McVicar is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
McVicar pushes Svardet off looking to stand but Svardet dives back in and keeps control.

McVicar fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Svardet shoots in but no luck this time.

and Svardet counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for McVicar!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Svardet trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The referee warns McVicar that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Svardet pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
McVicar is looking to improve his position but Svardet isn't that keen on the idea.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Svardet takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Daniel McVicar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kors Svardet.
Nice sprawl there from McVicar as Svardet shoots in.
McVicar leaves Svardet with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Daniel McVicar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kors Svardet.

Kors Svardet comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Svardet winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
