PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Velimir Rasic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mick Frey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Velimir Rasic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mick Frey!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Saam Ante and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rasic circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rasic slaps away a takedown attempt from Frey, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Frey fails with a takedown attempt.
Rasic shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Frey decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rasic's guard.

Frey got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rasic has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Frey has managed to get both his arms back between Rasic's legs - danger averted.
Frey trying to control the position from guard on top but Rasic is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Rasic had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Frey defends it easily.
Rasic looking to control.

Rasic looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rasic looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Frey slips nicely into half guard.
Well, if Frey is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Frey trying to mount his opponent but Rasic defends it.

Frey stands up out of the half guard.
Frey doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Rasic counters with a single leg into guard. Frey didn't expect that.
Velimir Rasic has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mick Frey.
Rasic is pushing down on Frey's leg trying to pass to half guard. Frey is fighting to maintain full guard but Rasic has managed to sneak the leg through.

Rasic seems to be working for a kimura but Frey defends the submission attempt.
Frey manages to get to full guard.

Frey is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Rasic drops back looking for a leg! Frey is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Frey manages to kick Rasic off! Rasic jumps back into Frey's guard.
Rasic sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Frey's guard.

Rasic is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Rasic is breathing heavily.
Frey is positioning himself well to prevent Rasic advancing to mount.

Rasic is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Rasic is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rasic is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Frey defends it well.

Rasic is working for a kimura but Frey is defending it quite comfortably.
Rasic trying to advance position but Frey counters by regaining guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Frey is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rasic is aware though and is defending well.

Rasic is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Frey is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Frey has escaped and now he's on top!
Rasic trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Rasic keeping moving, preventing Frey from controlling successfully.
Frey is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Rasic looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Velimir Rasic will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Frey lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Velimir Rasic has been cut.

Rasic shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Rasic is trying to work for a kimura but Frey is defending well.

Frey looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Rasic thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Frey's head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Frey is looking to improve his position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Frey lands with a nice body kick.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

and Rasic counters with a nice double leg into side control. Frey won't be happy with that.

Rasic tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rasic has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Rasic wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Frey, who protects the arm well.

Rasic looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Frey pecks away with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Frey defending against the ground and pound.
Frey is looking for a sweep.

Rasic thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Frey is looking to regain half guard here but Rasic keeps moving and retains side control.

Rasic is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Frey knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Rasic tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rasic sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Frey is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Frey sneaks back into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Frey is trying to maintain the position but Rasic is very close to passing his half guard.
Frey wants to get back to full guard.
Rasic wants to take a breather but Frey is having none of it.

Rasic seems to be looking for submissions.
Rasic throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Velimir Rasic dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Velimir Rasic's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Rasic wants to pass the guard but Frey is defending well.

Frey regains full guard. Nicely done.
Rasic wants to control from the top but Frey keeps moving.

Frey looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rasic working some strikes from top position.
Rasic tries to free his leg and advance position but Frey is retaining full guard.
Rasic thows a big elbow that misses.
Velimir Rasic overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Rasic thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Rasic drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Frey dives on top into guard.
Frey is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Frey is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Rasic has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Frey is looking to defend but Rasic has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Frey! Rasic pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Frey taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:01 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Velimir Rasic!
